The Super Eagles of Nigeria soared to a commanding 6-0 victory over Sao Tome & Principe in their final African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match, MySportDab reports.

Coach Jose Peseiro, speaking at the post-match press conference, boldly declared his intent to assemble a winning team for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was undoubtedly the star of the match, netting a sensational hat-trick. He was joined on the score sheet by Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, and Samuel Chukwueze, all contributing one goal each to the convincing victory.

Peseiro didn’t hold back his praise for the team’s performance, emphasizing their unwavering commitment. “Our players played with maximum commitment.

They want to play for me, I assembled them to win AFCON Cup, and today, they have shown good commitment in their play,” said the Portuguese tactician.

What stood out in this dominant display was the Super Eagles’ refusal to ease off despite facing a seemingly weaker opponent like Sao Tome.

Peseiro acknowledged this, saying, Normally if you play against a team that is not strong, everybody relaxes, but today, they did not relax. It was a fantastic game by the players, 6-0 is very good.

The coach also took a moment to express his gratitude to the people and government of Akwa Ibom for creating an exceptional atmosphere at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

He commended the passionate fans, stating, The fans were fantastic today; I say thank you. I like the people here; everything provided for us was good.

The Super Eagles finished as group leaders with an impressive 15 points from six matches, securing their spot at the AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.

Guinea Bissau also clinched a place in the tournament, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting competition.

With Peseiro’s unwavering determination and the Super Eagles’ stellar performance, Nigerian football fans can now look ahead with optimism as their team gears up to compete for the coveted AFCON title
