West Bromwich Albion has completed the signing of Nigerian striker Josh Maja from French Ligue 2 club Bordeaux, MySportDab reports
The 24-year-old has penned a three-year contract with the club, as announced on West Brom’s official website on Tuesday.
Maja’s move to West Brom comes after an impressive stint at Bordeaux, where he showcased his goal-scoring prowess with 16 goals and six assists last season.
Despite his impressive contributions, Bordeaux narrowly missed out on promotion to Ligue 1, finishing third in the league.
West Brom’s coach, Carlos Corberán, expressed his delight at having Maja join the squad.
The club had prioritized strengthening their attacking options during the summer transfer window, and Maja’s arrival brings both international and Premier League experience to the team.
Corberán emphasized Maja’s versatility and ability to complement Brandon Thomas-Asante, giving the team more options in attack.
Maja’s skillset allows him to drop deep to build attacks while also possessing a sharp instinct in the box, making him a valuable asset for the team’s offensive strategies.
While Maja’s signing is a significant boost for West Brom’s attacking force, the coaching staff acknowledges that he will need some time to acclimate to the club’s style and be fully prepared for the challenges of upcoming matches.
London-born Josh Maja made his professional debut for Sunderland at a remarkably young age of 17 in the Carabao Cup.
His impressive performance in the first half of the 2018/19 season, netting 15 goals from 24 league matches, earned him a move to Bordeaux.
Maja’s journey to football excellence has also seen him earn an appearance for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
He made his lone appearance in an international friendly against Ukraine on 10th September 2019, coming on as a late substitute for Victor Osimhen in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
As West Bromwich Albion’s newest acquisition, all eyes will be on Josh Maja as he aims to make a significant impact in the upcoming Championship season.
The club’s supporters are excited to witness the Nigerian striker in action, hoping his goal-scoring prowess will help propel them towards a successful campaign.
