Full Match Report

The Super Falcons came in as the underdog of both teams who were busy looking to make an early goal happen in the match.

Australia dominated play as they pushed forward more and created some wonderful opportunities on goal which they couldn’t finish off neatly.

It wasn’t easy for Nigeria who had some dealings defending and couldn’t get much upfront as they were facing so much pressure from the host nation.

The opening goal came in the 45th minutes plus added time through Emily van Egmond who slotted home beating Chiamaka Nnadoze to make it 1-0 going forward.

Australia couldn’t keep things cool as Uchenna Kanu benefitted from a loosed opportunity to slot home neatly as Nigeria held them to a 1-1 draw after 45 minutes.

The second half action was wonderful with both of them already cancelling each other out in a heavily contested first half encounter.

Australia remained dominate going forward in the match as they pushed on but unfortunately Osinachi Ohale scored a shocker to make it 1-2 in the 65th minutes.

The Nigeria defender was later removed after suffering an injury in the process of getting the lead for the Super Falcons as they both carried.

Asisat Oshoala came off the bench and immediately made an impact by scoring a beauty in the 72nd after beating the defender with pace to make it 1-3.

The match carried on with the Super Falcons of Nigeria beating host Nation Australia despite a late goal from Alana Kennedy 2-3 to claim three points and top the group with four points.
