Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has confirmed his position on the future of Harry Maguire in Manchester United, MySportDab reports.
Harry Maguire has been a casualty of Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United rebuild.
He has struggled for game time under the Dutch tactician and has fallen down the Ten Hag’s pecking order with the list of defensive options available at the club.
Ten Hag prefers former France international Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the Man United backline.
Sometimes, Luke Shaw is used on center-back roles for the Red Devils instead of Harry Maguire.
Maguire has recorded only 8 starts for Manchester United this season and there have been reports linking him to a possible exit from the club this season.
Amidst rumors and speculations on Harry Maguire future at Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag has confirmed his position.
Speaking in a media conference, Ten Hag confirmed Raphael Varane is still his choice defender ahead of Harry Maguire.
He, however, added Harry Maguire has been training well at the club and putting up his best but is facing a stiff competition from Raphael Varane.
On Harry Maguire future, Erik Ten Hag said the England star is still important for the squad as a captain but said he (Maguire) can take a decision on his Man United future in the summer.
“Let’s say I’m happy he’s here and when we needed him he did his job. But it’s also a decision he has to make. No one would be happy with this situation. He is not as well.
“He trains always on the best levels with 100 per cent effort. So he handles that situation well and in his captaincy he’s important for the squad.
“But he has high competition there with Raphael Varane who is fantastic.”
Harry Maguire is at crossroads on his Manchester United career. According to reports he is set to leave the club at the end of the summer with the Red Devils ready to listen to offers for him.
