Manchester United Coach Erik ten Hag has now blamed the Premier League’s hectic schedule for Marcus Rashford’s groin injury, MySportDab reports.

Rashford went off holding his groin after trying to control a pass from Christian Eriksen and had to be replaced in the 81st minute.

The 25-year-old has played in all of United’s 29 Premier League matches so far this season and has scored 28 club goals across all competitions.

In terms of goals, United’s next top scorer is Bruno Fernandes with 10.

Rashford’s injury is not linked to his withdrawal from the England squad last month after a knock in United’s FA Cup quarter-final game.

However, United’s 2-0 win against Everton was their third match in six days.

When asked for an update on the extent of Rashford’s injury, Ten Hag said: “I can’t confirm anything right now, you are doctor, maybe?”

“I am not. We must wait to see how bad or how good it is. Yeah, he went off with an issue, now we must wait for a diagnosis.

“Things like this should be avoidable. Why did we play Newcastle in a late Sunday night game and then ab early Saturday game the next week? I think that’s unfair.

“You run the risk of players getting worn out and can’t recover that quickly, we know all players need a certain period to recover.

“So then there’s even more risk. This situation is also as a result of the schedule and now we can only pray he won’t be out for long.

“Not every coach at this stage of the season will rotate so much. I know it’s a tough league and we need a squad to rotate to a certain point.

“But this could have been avoided, it was not a good idea to set the fixture schedule like this. I think it’s important that we protect the players.”
