Former Chelsea and Barcelona star Marcos Alonso has been hit with a tragic death, MySportDab reports.

The former Premier League star is now bereaved due to a shock news that has forced his team Barcelona to immediately issue a statement.

Marcos Alonso is a renowned and top Spain footballer, who has plied his trade with top Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea.

He is currently playing for Barcelona, and is an integral part of Xavi Hernandez’s LaLiga title-chasing Barcelona.

According to the Sun, Marcos Alonso’s father, Marcos Alonso Pena has been confirmed dead after an illness.

The father of the former Chelsea star is also said to have been a top footballer, who played for top clubs in Spain including the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Marcos Alonso Pena played for Spain national team before calling time on his career.

Alonso Pena started his career with Racing Santander in the late 70s before moving to Atletico Madrid.

After his first spell with Atletico Madrid, he joined Barcelona, where he went on to play 124 matches and score 28 goals over five years.

Pena played as a winger throughout his football career and had returned to Atletico and Santander later in his career, before calling time in his career in1991.

He also said to have made 22 appearances for Spain national team before retiring and had netted only once for the European giants.

Barcelona immediately reacted to the death of the football icon, who use to the play for the club, including his son Marcos Alonso

 

Taking to its official Twitter Handle, Barcelona wrote,

“FC Barcelona would like to express its deepest condolences for the passing of former Barça player and father of a first-team player Marcos Alonso Peña.

“All of our strength to Marcos Alonso and his entire family. Rest in peace.”

According to reports from Spanish media, Marcos Alonso’s father death is tragic . He died after a long illness but the cause of the illness was unknown before he finally passed on at the age of 63.
