Manchester United players don’t want Mason Greenwood back in the squad because it could derail their progress this season, MySportDab reports.

The 21-year-old had his rape and assault charges dropped against him but still faces an internal investigation to see if he could join up with Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad.

Greenwood is still listed on United’s Premier League squad list, after being included as an Under-21 player earlier in the season, however there are growing concerns.

According to The Sun, the Man United Squad believe his return could derail their momentum to win a trophy and finish high on the league table this season.

A source said: ‘The players don’t mind him back in the team but the problems it could cause are serious.

‘The dressing room is at the happiest point in years and no one wants to ruin that.’

United have been fantastic under ten Hag despite off-field issues with Greenwood and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils have lost only one match since November and and remain in the Europa League.

Greenwood’s last game for United was in January 2022 but he still remains under contract with the club until 2025.

His name was not included in United’s squad list for the knockout rounds of the Europa League, released on Friday.

There were also reports that he could restart his football career outside the UK should Manchester United terminate his contract.

The player was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in 2022.
