Barcelona President Joan Laporta has now provided a final update about the potential sale of Frenkie De Jong, MySportDab reports.

Joan Laporta has made it clear that he is not interested in selling midfielder Frenkie de Jong anytime soon.

The Dutch midfielder was targeted by Manchester United in the summer transfer window, but the player was unwilling to join the Premier League.

United have now joined the race for Jude Bellingham but could still sign De Jong in a shocking double swoop.

Laporta said: ‘In midfield I never wanted to let Frenkie de Jong leave the club because he is one of the best players in that position for us.

‘He’s young, a leader in the team and one of the great talents we have.’

United have good reason to try and sign a midfielder that has played 13 of Barcelona’s 14 La Liga games so far this season.

With Sergio Busquets’ future at the club uncertain, De Jong’s place in the team can now become more crucial.

And the 25-year-old could now form a midfield trio for Xavi’s side, with Gavi and Pedri.

Despite their young ages, Gavi and Pedri have both played very frequently for Barcelona and Spain on the international stage.

And their prominence for has them being compared to Barca legends Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Anything could happen between now and the end of the season.
