Chelsea have confirmed that England star Ben Chilwell has been ruled out of the 2022 World Cup, MySportDab reports.

The Blues confirmed the new development after a scan was conducted on the state of the damage of the injury sustained by the England star.

A statement released on the club’s official website reads;

“Following the injury sustained in our recent game against Dinamo Zagreb, Ben has undergone a scan on his hamstring.

Results show that Ben has suffered a significant injury, and the defender is unfortunately expected to miss the World Cup.

Ben will now begin a rehabilitation program with the club’s medical department.”

Chelsea picked all three points in their last Champions League group game against Dinamo Zagreb at Stamford Bridge but lost Ben Chilwell to injury.

Before the scan, it was thought that Ben Chilwell might likely return soon despite limping off early in the game.

As things stand, it has been confirmed Ben Chilwell will miss the tournament after the scan indicated severe damage to the player.

The news is a severe blow to Gareth Southgate, who is currently battling a scary injury crisis in the Three Lions defense ahead of the World Cup tournament.

The likes of Kyle Walker, Alexander Arnold, and recently Reece James are significant doubts ahead of the tournament, with Gareth Southgate set to name the final 26-man squad on November 14, a week before the tournament.

The spate of injuries may likely affect the Three Lions World Cup chances as they set to open their campaign on November 21 against Iran.

There are predictions that Gareth Southgate may likely gamble with Reece James by including him in the squad, although he is yet to recover fully.

Southgate took a similar step in the Euros when he included Harry Maguire, who was still nursing injury ahead of the tournament.
