Manchester United club Legend Wayne Rooney now sent a clear message to former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, MySportDab reports.

Rooney has said that time catches up with everyone and Ronaldo must be more patient after his struggling start at Manchester United this season.

The Ballon D’Or winner has only started one Premier League match for Erik ten Hag’s team this season, and has spent more time on the bench.

Ronaldo’s former teammate Rooney has now said that he must be patient and wait for the right opportunities.

“The manager’s has a different plan on how they’re playing and to be successful,” Rooney told reporters on Friday.

“Cristiano and Messi are no doubt two of the greatest players in football history, but time catches up with everyone.

“He’s not the same player he was when he was 22 or 23. It’s definitely tough for him.

“Knowing him, it is hard for him to sit on the bench. I’m sure if he’s patient, his chance will come and it’s then he must take those chances and not force his way in.”

Rooney and Ronaldo performed very well in a fruitful era under former coach Sir Alex Ferguson until 2009, when he left for Real Madrid in a £80m deal.

The 37-year-old is now being played as an impact substitute to give him more minutes.

Ten Hag decided to bench Ronaldo for the 6-3 defeat by Manchester City in the derby last weekend, despite his five substitutions.

Ronaldo has only scored one goal for United this in the Europa League against FC Sheriff.
