Mason Greenwood has now officially been charged to court for attempted rape, MySportDab reports.

The Manchester United forward has also been charged for engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.

The charge was announced a few minutes ago by Janet Potter, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor.

The statement read: “The Crown Prosecution Service has now authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood for rape, engaging in coercive behaviour, and assault.

“All three counts are for the same filed complainant.

“Specialist rape prosecutors authorised the charges following a review of evidenced provided by the Greater Manchester Police.

“The defendant’s first court appearance will be on 17 October at Greater Manchester magistrates’ court.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and he will get a fair trial.

“There should be no reporting or sharing of information online that could prejudice those proceedings.”

Greenwood has been suspended by Manchester United since his arrest in January, and his return now looks more unlikely.

He got released on bail in February and has been waiting to know his fate before being charged today.

The England International joined United’s youth academy at six and was only 17 when he made his debut.

He played for England in August 2020.
