FC Porto players jubilated on their flight back home after Saul Niguez missed a last-minute penalty that would have saved Atletico Madrid from crashing out of the Champions League, MySportDab reports.

Porto, whose game was an early kickoff, had gone to Belgium to grab a shock and big victory over the Group B leaders, Club Brugge.

It was Club Brugge’s first defeat after five matches, and they were top of the Group with 10 points.

Porto pulled a stunner to boost their chances of making it from the group, depending on the outcome of the match between Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

Goals from Estaqiuo, Evanilson, and a brace from Taremi shot the Portuguese giants to an incredible 4-0 win away over Club Brugge.

The win was a tentative assurance that Porto is likely to make it to the next round of the competition.

Still, they had to await the match between Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen at the Metropolitano stadium.

Atletico Madrid faltered in front of their home fans after they allowed the visitors to take the lead after Diaby’s 9th-minute opener.

However, Carrasco finds an equaliser for the hosts in the 22nd minute.

Seven minutes after Carrasco’s equaliser, Bayer Leverkusen retook the lead courtesy of Hudson-Odoi’s 29th-minute goal.

De Paul equalise again for the home side in the 50th minute, keeping their qualification hopes alive.

The game continued with a 2-2 scoreline till the final minute of play when Bayer Leverkusen conceded a stoppage-time penalty in the 90+8th minute.

Carrasco took the penalty, and unfortunately, missed a last and golden chance to win the game for Atletico Madrid, with Hradecky pulling a great save.

The missed penalty sent the camp of the Porto players and coaching crew, who were onboard a flight back home, into wild jubilations, as they were now sure of a place in the knockout round
