Saul Niguez was one of their highest-earning players who was sacrificed to make sure they can cut down on their wage cap.
His first few games with Chelsea were a bit rough as he struggled to cope with the position he was put to play during those encounters.
He was able to get control of things while he played more games, although it wasn’t enough to get him a regular starting place knowing the squad had so much quality.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Saul Niguez won’t be staying with Chelsea next season as they have decided against making the move permanent.
Here Is What Was Said:
“Chelsea have confirmed to Atletico Madrid few weeks ago that they won’t trigger the buy option clause worth €35m for Saúl Ñíguez.
“Saúl will return to Atléti and he will decide his future soon after many proposals received last summer.
The move could have been based off his wages which the Blues are not willing to pay for him to remain with them permanently.
Saul Niguez is one of the players earning huge with Atletico Madrid and making the move to Chelsea permanent would mean them paying the same fee.
They have now decided not to sign the player who will be returning to Atletico Madrid and will have to figure out a way to offload him or send him on loan.
