She grew up in the same household as her famous sisters but chose a completely different path, building a successful career in costume design and fashion rather than tennis.

In her own words, shared on the Sports Illustrated podcast Beyond the Baseline, tennis is not part of her identity, a refreshingly direct statement from someone who has spent decades deliberately building her own name within a family defined by athletic greatness.

Lyndrea Price Biography

Lyndrea Price

She was born in 1978 in California. Lyndrea Price is the daughter of Oracene Price and her first husband, Yusef Rasheed.

Rasheed died when Lyndrea was still very young, and Oracene later married Richard Williams, the coach who went on to guide Venus and Serena to tennis stardom.

Lyndrea is the eldest of five sisters in the blended family: her full sisters, Yetunde and Isha Price, and her half-sisters, Venus and Serena Williams.

The family was raised primarily in Compton, California, before later relocating to Florida as Venus and Serena’s tennis careers progressed.

Growing up, Richard Williams encouraged all of his daughters, including Lyndrea, to play tennis alongside Venus and Serena during their early training in Compton.

Lyndrea has spoken candidly about that period, explaining that although she was part of the same environment, her passion never gravitated toward the sport the way it did for her younger sisters. She ultimately chose not to pursue tennis further.

The Price Williams family experienced a profound tragedy in 2003 when Lyndrea’s older sister, Yetunde Price, was killed in a shooting in Compton.

The loss deeply affected the entire family, and in the years since, the sisters have honored Yetunde’s memory by helping establish the Yetunde Price Resource Center. This organization supports survivors of trauma and violence in the same community where she was raised.

Serena Williams’ Sister

Serena Williams Sister

Lyndrea Price is the older half sister of tennis legends Serena Williams and Venus Williams.

Although they have different fathers, the sisters were raised together by their mother, Oracene Price, and spent much of their childhood in the same household, developing a close family bond that has endured throughout their lives.

Growing up, Lyndrea witnessed the disciplined training that would eventually propel Serena and Venus to the pinnacle of professional tennis.

Richard Williams encouraged all of the children to participate in tennis during their early years, but while Serena and Venus pursued the sport professionally, Lyndrea chose a different path that better reflected her own interests and ambitions.

Despite not entering the world of competitive tennis, Lyndrea has remained a supportive presence within the Williams family.

She has often celebrated her sisters’ achievements while maintaining a life largely outside the public spotlight.

As the eldest of the Williams sisters, Lyndrea shares a close relationship with Serena and Venus, and the family’s strong bond has remained evident throughout their remarkable journeys.

Her story reflects the importance of family support behind two of the most accomplished athletes in tennis history, even as she forged a successful career and identity independent of the sport.

Career

Lyndrea Career

Lyndrea Price has built a genuine, independent career in fashion and costume design, distinct from her sisters’ athletic accomplishments.

She has worked as a costume designer and wardrobe consultant across film, television, and fashion projects, most notably contributing to the wardrobe department for King Richard, the 2021 biographical film about her stepfather, Richard Williams, and her sisters’ rise to tennis stardom.

In a fitting overlap, Lyndrea both contributed to the film’s costume department and was portrayed as a character in the movie, making her one of the few people to work behind the scenes on a film that tells her own family’s story.

Beyond King Richard, Lyndrea has worked as a creative costumer for EleVen, Venus Williams’s athletic and lifestyle fashion brand, contributing directly to the label’s design and styling.

She has also developed her own independent fashion venture, Ember Lynn Designs, and has worked as a freelance wardrobe consultant on television and other media projects.

In addition to fashion, Lyndrea has applied her skills to web design, including work related to her sisters’ official online presence, reflecting a varied and self-directed career rather than one built solely on her family connections.

Lyndrea has also spoken publicly about her career and identity on the Sports Illustrated podcast Beyond the Baseline, hosted by Jon Wertheim.

During the interview, she discussed what it was like growing up in the public eye as the Williams sisters’ sibling, how she found her own professional voice, and why tennis was never central to her sense of self despite her family’s deep connection to the sport.
