Manchester United are now in talks to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, MySportDab reports.

At the end of the season, United want to sign a new defensive midfielder.

Phillips has impressed in the Premier League since Leeds were promoted in 2020.

However, Manchester United are still closely interested in Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

For Declan Rice, West Ham have demanded a shocking £150million for the player while Borussia Dortmund won’t sell Bellingham now.

Rice has developed at West Ham into a box-to-box midfielder and Phillips has performed very well in a deeper role for Leeds.

The next United Coach possibly Erik ten Hag would make the final decision on any new signings in the summer.

According to Manchester Evening News, Phillips meets the requirements needed at Manchester United to solve the midfield.

He could also fill a void as Paul Pogba is expected to leave at the end of the season.

Ten Hag will have central midfielders Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic when appointed as the next coach.

But, youngster James Garner could be promoted into the first team for next season.

United are working carefully given the possibility of missing out on Champions League football.

The Red Devils see Philips as a much cheaper option compared to Rice and Bellingham.

Aston Villa, and West Ham are already showing interest in Phillips ahead of the summer.

Phillips has a contract at Leeds until 2024 and he is unlikely to sign a new contract.

Over the years, Manchester United have signed several high-profile transfers from Leeds.

Leeds and United have a good relationship following the deal for Daniel James on deadline day.

Phillips returned from a long injury absence in the 1-1 draw against Southampton on Saturday.

He played 29 matches for Leeds in the Premier League last season.

Phillips also started in England’s seven European Championship matches and is still a key player for Coach Gareth Southgate.
