Memphis Depay scored from the penalty spot as Xavi Hernandez claimed first win after Barcelona beat Espanyol 1-0, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
The first half of the encounter was evenly balanced between the two teams who showed so much quality going forward and defending.
Espanyol did a good job in making sure they didn’t go down easily against the side who have a new manager in Xavi Hernandez taking over things in his first game.
Barcelona looked better organized as they push forward looking to make something happen which didn’t come immediately for them as the game progressed.
No goal with both teams approaching the final few minutes left to play in the first half of the encounter which was looking very tight and closely matched.
The first half ended with Barcelona and Espanyol settling for a goalless 0-0 scoreline as they both headed inside for the break after 45 minutes.
Second Half Report
The second half started good from both ends as the two sides had control of how things was playing out despite no goal coming through for them.
Espanyol finally conceded a goal in the 48th minute of the second half which was from a penalty scored by Memphis Depay who made sure he gave Barca a 1-0 lead in the match.
Barcelona continue to do everything possible to make sure they increase the advantage which wasn’t looking like it would happen anytime soon as it carried on.
It was looking balanced as things was flowing well for the home side who played like a well coordinated team pushing forward and making sure their back is in order.
The scoreline remained in 1-0 as they entered the final few minutes which more opportunities kept on coming but their finishing was very poor.
The game came to an end with Barcelona taking a three points to hand Xavi Hernandez his first win with a 1-0 victory against Espanyol.
