Romelu Lukaku on target once again as Chelsea beat Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 to kick off their Uefa Champions League title defense, MySportDab reports.

First Half Report

An evenly balanced first half failed to provide anything good for both teams who were solid in defending but nothing attacking.

It was Zenit St Petersburg who made sure they locked things tight for the Champions who find it difficult to make an attempt on goal as the match carried on.

The encounter wasn’t looking too good as Chelsea were unable to do anything with all the ball possession on their side despite Romelu Lukaku’s presence inside the box.

Nothing good for the Champions League winners who continued the 45 minutes struggling before they made one attempt which was off target.

The first half finished with Chelsea 0-0 Zenit St Petersburg as they both headed inside for the break with anything happening to change the goalless situation.

Second Half Report

It was a different ball game in the second half which the pressure from the home side proved too much to contain with something happening.

Chelsea continued with their dominance while pushing forward as they were able to create opportunities and make more attempts on goals that looked promising.

The visiting side Zenit St Petersburg were all the way down for anything coming their way which saw them defending perfectly like the first half.

The Blues were able to break the deadlock in the 69th minute of play as Romelu Lukaku smashed home an assist from Cesar Azpilicueta to make it 1-0 as it progressed.

Chelsea Zenit

More opportunities continue to come from both sides who had some new players coming on to replace the ones on the pitch with 10 minutes left to play.

No goal as the game ended with Chelsea 1-0 Zenit St Petersburg, which saw the Premier League side claiming an impressive victory against the Russians.
