Cristiano Ronaldo has now revealed his plans to score even more goals after he became international football’s record goalscorer, MySportDab reports.

The 36-year-old missed a penalty in the first half against the Republic of Ireland, but later helped Portugal seal a 2-1 World Cup qualifier win.

His two goals vs Ireland means he eclipsed the 109 goals scored by Iran’s Ali Daei, and set a new world record.

Writing on social media, Ronaldo said: ‘This is a very special one for me from all the records that I have broken during my career.

‘It’s one of my achievements that make me truly proud.

‘Firstly, because playing for my country is a special moment, to defend Portugal and show to the world what Portuguese people can do.

‘Secondly, because the national teams competitions have made me better after watching my idols playing for their flags every year.

‘Finally, because scoring 111 goals for Portugal means 111 moments like today in Algarve, moments of worldwide happiness for Portuguese citizens all over the world.

‘Another reason i appreciate this achievement, is because Ali Daei has set the standards in such a high level in football that even I started thinking that I couldn’t catch him.

‘Congratulations to him for holding the record for a very long time and thanks for always showing me the respect every time I scored and as I became closer and closer to his record.

‘Thank you Portugal, my team-mates and opponents for making this unforgettable. Let’s keep working together on the pitch in the years to come. I’m not done just yet…’

Ronaldo’s heroics helped Portugal avoid a first home World Cup qualifier loss since 2008.
