Liverpool forward Diogo Jota will now miss the next eight weeks of football due to a knee injury, MySportDab reports.

Coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed this ahead of Sunday’s game at Fulham.

On Wednesday, Jota was forced off late on in the 1-1 Champions League draw against FC Midtjylland.

Before the Fulham match, Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison spoke to Klopp at Craven Cottage.

Now, Davison tweeted that Jota’s injury is serious but not surgery is required.

Davison wrote: “Jurgen has confirmed that Jota is unavailable for 6 to 8 weeks. Worse but better than feared. No need for surgery.”

Jota’s injury comes as massive blow to Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League title.

Coach Jurgen Klopp is already without two key players due to knee injuries.

Centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are unavailable for a long period of time this season.

Summer signing from Bayern Munich, Thiago Alcantara has also not played for Liverpool since the 2-2 Merseyside derby draw at Everton.

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves for £41m in the last summer transfer window.

The Portugal international has enjoyed a perfect start to life at Anfield, scoring nine goals in his 17 matches across all competitions.
