Holland Football legend Marco Van Basten has claimed that Donny van de Beek will regret his summer transfer to Manchester United, MySportDab reports.

The 23-year-old has only played 61 minutes of football in the English Premier League for the Old Trafford club after his arrival from Ajax for £40m in the summer.

The Holland international was again on the bench for the Chelsea match, despite Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promising Van de Beek more minutes this season.

But, Speaking on Dutch television channel Ziggy Sport, Van Basten believes his compatriot should have waited, and signed for another club.

‘Donny should not have signed for Manchester United,’ Van Basten said.

‘When you are a top player you always want to play every match.

‘It is bad for a player like Donny to play six or seven matches this year. That is shocking for your game rhythm.

‘I know he is earning more than he used to. But as a top player you have to look at the chances of playing when you sign for another club.

‘He should have waited for better opportunities and ensure to sign for another club.’

Van Basten’s comments comes just after Manchester United Legend Patrice Evra questioned why the club had signed Van de Beek.

Speaking after the draw against Chelsea, Evra said: ‘We’re discussing about Van de Beek, i have nothing against the kid, but why did we buy him?

‘He’s watching the match from the stand every week. We did not need him, that’s the truth.’

Van de Beek has made only two starts for Manchester United this season, both in Carabao Cup victories Brighton, and Luton.
