Manchester United have handed new signing Edinson Cavani the iconic No 7 jersey previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, MySportDab reports.

Cavani is confident that he can hit the ground running at Old Trafford after Ed Woodward decided to sign him on transfer deadline day.

Manchester United spent most of the transfer window trying to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho but decided to sign Cavani instead.

The Uruguay international will now wear the No 7 Jersey last worn by Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford.

The No.7 Jersey has previously been worn by club legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and George Best.

Cavani said: “It gives me great pride to wear the No 7 Jersey for Manchester United.

“Now I am ready for this responsibility, do my best to be prepared and enjoy the moment and I hope to show my quality at Manchester United.

“I have a two-year contract with Manchester United. I want to give everything here. I feel great.”

However, Manchester United Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident that Cavani will justify the decision to sign him.

“Cavani is an experienced professional who always gives everything,” said the Norwegian.

“He has a fantastic goalscoring record for both his clubs and country, which is absolutely fantastic and we are delighted to sign a player like him.

“He’ll bring more power, energy, leadership and a mentality to the squad but he’ll score the important goals.

“He has had a fantastic career so far in the football world, winning various trophies at almost every club, and he still has a lot to give at the highest level.

“The idea for our young footballers to learn from one of Europe’s best goalscorers over the last 10 years is a great opportunity and it will benefit them moving forward.

“Cavani knows what it takes to succeed and we are looking forward to see him make his impact at Manchester United.”
