Chelsea Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was forced to return back to Chelsea from international duty with Senegal after an injury problem, MySportDab reports.

Mendy has only played twice for Chelsea since his transfer from Rennes.

Chelsea signed Mendy to provide extra competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga, and he took his place in the first XI last week.

The 27-year-old played in the match against Crystal Palace and kept a clean sheet in a good win for the Blues.

He was expected to keep his start the upcoming matches due to Kepa’s poor performances.

However, before he could play for Senegal this week, the National team confirmed that he had to return to Chelsea due to an injury.

MySportDab understands that Mendy suffered a thigh injury and it examined by the Senegalese medical professionals.

After the injury was examined, they decided to send him back to avoid further issues.

That means he’ll miss Senegal match tonight against Morocco, and Tuesday’s match against Mauritania.

He’s now faced with a race against time to be fully fit before Chelsea resume Premier League action.

In a statement, the Senegalese FA confirmed that Edouard Mendy would undergo more examinations at Chelsea.

The statement said, “The Senegalese Football Federation can confirm that Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has sustained an injury to the right thigh during the training session on Wednesday, October 07th and has done a medical examination at an hospital in Rabat.

“Edouard Mendy has now left the national team and returned to Chelsea, where more tests will be carried out.

“The Senegalese FA wishes him a quick recovery.”

Mendy’s injury could give Kepa Arrizabalaga another chance in the Chelsea first team after an impressive performance for Spain.

On Wednesday, The 25-year-old kept a clean sheet against Portugal and performed well.
