Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand has criticised the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market this summer, MySportDab reports.

Chelsea’s summer spending spree shows there is no excuse for not signing quality players.

Manchester United have only signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax this summer but are frustrated despite talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho.

Meanwhile, English Premier League rivals Chelsea have spent £200m or more on new players this summer.

However, Rio Ferdinand believes Frank Lampard’s spending shows that it’s still possible to sign new players summer.

Ferdinand hopes that Manchester United act quickly enough to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.

‘Frank Lampard has signed players like it’s so easy, like it’s normal formality,’Ferdinand said on the Five YouTube Channel.

‘The key difference with how Chelsea have done  business compared to my club Man United is that there is no noise and suddenly, bang done deal.

‘Little news, done-deal.

‘That is very frustrating for me and all Manchester United fans.’

Rio Ferdinand also used Jadon Sancho as the prime example of United’s poor activity in the transfer market.

The Red Devils failed to meet the August 10th deadline set by Borussia Dortmund to get a deal done.

Sancho remains United’s No 1 main transfer target but they have failed to reach an agreement with Dortmund over the £108m fee for the winger.

‘Jadon Sancho has been talked about for months now,’ Ferdinand added.

‘Still nothing is completed, it’s frustrating, I’m not saying it’s easy to get transfers done but Chelsea have showed it is possible to get it done if you splash the cash in the right way.’

Manchester United start the new English Premier League season at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
