Rennes asked for Chelsea players on loan during the negotiations, Fikayo Tomori was mentioned but he is more likely to join Everton.

Edouard Mendy has already said his goodbyes to Rennes teammates on Friday after playing 34 matches for the club.

Chelsea Coach Frank Lampard was desperate to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga as his No 1.

Edouard Mendy will now become the seventh signing for Chelsea in an extraordinary summer transfer window.

The Blues were banned from signing players in 2019 due to a transfer ban.

But they’ve now covered up by spending alot og cash this summer and owner Roman Abramovich wants to win the Premier League title again.

Chelsea have millions to spend from the sales of Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard to Spanish clubs.

Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta has already joined Genoa on loan.

The Blues would also consider a move for West Ham’s Declan Rice after Edouard Mendy is signed.
