Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is set to become the highest paid footballer in the club’s history after he agreed to a new contract extension worth £220,000-a-week, MySportDab reports.

According to The Sun, The Holland Star will sign a new five-year deal worth £57million after Liverpool win the Premier League title.

Some fans were scared that the 28-year-old would sign for French club Paris Saint-Germain who have shown interest in him.

Right now, Van Dijk earns £180,000-a-week and could have gotten a £100,000 pay rise should he sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

However, The former Southampton player is happy with the £40,000-a-week rise that will make him Liverpool’s highest paid player.

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah currently earns £200,000-per-week and now his team-mate will earn more than him.

Virgil Van Dijk signed for Liverpool from Southampton in a world record £75million deal in January 2018.

He will now sign a contract extension until the end of the 2024-25 season.

MySportDab understands that the deal is already completed but will no announcement until next month.

Liverpool Coach Jurgen Klopp also wants Sadio Mane to sign a new contract that would also make him earn alot more.

Mane’s contract is due to expire in three years and he has accepted a £2m-a-year pay rise since last November.

Liverpool restart Premier League football against Everton on Sunday next week and need only two wins to secure the Premier League title in 30 years.
