RB Leipzig Striker Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea in a deal worth £53million and £180,000-a-week in wages, MySportDab reports.

The Blues have hijacked Liverpool’s plans to sign the Germany international after weeks of talks with RB Leipzig.

MySportDab understands that Werner has agreed to sign for Chelsea in a deal which would earn him around £180,000-per-week (£9m-a-year).

Timo Werner has a £53m release clause in his contract but Liverpool have refused to pay because of the coronavirus financial impact on clubs.

The release clause must be triggered before June 15th and despite Liverpool being in talks with the Bundesliga club, Werner will now sign for their rivals.

Liverpool can still try to sign Werner but it is unlikely they will pay his £53m release clause.

Timo Werner’s agent Karlheinz Forster has held advanced talks with Chelsea on Thursday and the transfer is expected to be completed next week, according to SkySports.

Chelsea have no financial difficulties after their transfer ban and also Eden Hazard’s move to Real Madrid last summer earned the club alot of money.

Although, Werner’s release clause is expected to drop to £36m in 2021, Chelsea have made their move now to seal his signature as soon as possible.

The Blues want a top level striker to compete alongside Tammy Abraham and the club have a good relationship with RB Leipzig as 19-year-old defender Ethan Ampadu is currently on loan at the club.

Timo Werner is a very important player for Julian Naglesmann’s team and scored 31 goals in 30 competitive matches and 12 assists so far this season.
