Manchester United have been given permission to trial safe-standing in a section of Old Trafford from next season, MySportDab reports.

Old Trafford Council have announced the decision for the planned change by the Red Devils.

Manchester United will now install around 1,500 barrier seats in the north east side of the stadium.

Manchester United director Richard Arnold said: “It should be understood that our main priority is to keep our people safe from the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is likely you think it’s strange to talk about stadium plans right now but football and fans will return when safe enough.

“This new announcement is one of our steps in a long journey with our fans. We have spoken to them, the representations made sure of this and worked with also Trafford Council to approve this proposal.

“Our main belief is that the new barrier seats will enhance fans safety in various areas of the stadium.

“This also allows us to improve and future-proof the stadium in case of any changes to the current all-seater stadium policies.

“If this trial is completed successfully, we may consider further plans of barrier seating in other stadium parts.

“We will now continue to develop the licensing plan, installation and for the trial, with a view to having new seats installed before our fans return to Old Trafford.”

MySportDab understands the new trial is part of plans to develop the stadium and create a better Old Trafford atmosphere.

United announced plans for the atmosphere section extension in the Stretford End as part of season ticket launch for the 2020-21 season.
