Tottenham are now looking at the possibility of a swap deal offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes who looks set to join Manchester United, MySportDab reports.
Fernandes now looks destined for a move to the Premier League, with Sporting willing to sell now due to their ongoing financial difficulties.
According to football.London, Tottenham are preparing a swap deal offer for Fernandes after their failed attempt to sign him last summer.
In August, Spurs sent delegates to Lisbon to seal a transfer deal but there were doubts from Sporting’s end over the offer from Spurs.
Sporting Lisbon felt that some of the add-ons included in the deal were very unrealistic and at that point they were not under pressure to offload their captain.
But now the report suggest that Coach Jose Mourinho is willing to include defender Juan Foyth as part of a swap deal, which would see him join the Portuguese club on loan.
They belief the Argentine will act as a sweetener and help reduce the asking price for Fernandes, for whom United are ready to pay £65m bid.
Foyth is not longer a first team player at Tottenham after failing down the pecking order with Japhet Tanganga impressing against Liverpool on Saturday.
His agent Claudio Curti confirmed that he is now looking into a January move for his client.
“We are evaluating the possibility of a move in the January market,” he said.
“We shall wait for this week to find clarity from Tottenham.”
Tottenham will have to move quickly if they are to spoil United’s transfer plans this January.
The United hierarchy did invite Sporting President Federico Verandas and director Hugo Viana to England for talks on Friday.
However, Tottenham are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window.
