Manchester United Coach Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has confirmed that defender Harry Maguire will be the new club captain, MySportDab reports.
The Norwegian has been forced to pick a new captain because Ashley Young is set to complete his transfer to Inter Milan.
Maguire has already won the armband previously on various occasions, having taken responsibility when Young was not on the pitch.
MySportDab understands that one of the reasons that United signed him from Leicester, was because of his strong leadership qualities.
Making Maguire captain is not a new thing for fans with Coach Solksjaer a big fan of the skipper since his move to Old Trafford in the summer.
Earlier this season, Solksjaer declared that Maguire had all the makings of a future captain.
“He has the credentials to be captain no doubt,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s have always thought about him as a future captain.
“He’s a leader on the pitch, He helps the team out alot, defends well, he’s got the right presence in both boxes and he is a top professional.
“He’s vocal, he voices his opinion during training and also in the dressing room and I’m very pleased with we spent that much on him.
“He never asked to be captain, But it’s been in my head that he will surely wear the armband.”
However, Solskjaer confirmed the news of his decision today during a press conference before Sunday’s game against Liverpool.
“Harry will be wearing the captain’s armband henceforth,” said Solskjaer.
“He’s been a leader in the team, he’s impressed me with his leadership skills, so he will keep wearing the armband.
“He’s come in and showed himself as a true leader.”
Manchester United agreed a £1.28m fee with Inter Milan for the transfer of Ashley Young.
