The former Red Devils midfielder admits that the man calling the shots at old Trafford “desperately wants help” so as to take the club forward.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer “desperately wants help” at Manchester United , admits Owen Hargreaves, with fifth within the Premier League “as good as it can possibly get” without help within the transfer market.

The Red Devils are still hoping to get “one or two” deals over the road before the January window slams shut.

It has, however, been another frustrating period for all involved at old Trafford lately, with an absence of movement off the field contributing to further struggles for consistency on it.

A dissatisfied fan base has been fast to air its frustration within the direction of the club’s board and executive vice-chairman ed Woodward, with those behind the scenes cursed  for recent regression.

Hargreaves concedes it’s tough to see United turning into upwardly mobile again in their current state, with Solskjaer requiring bigger support than he has received over the last twelve month.

“He urgently meeds help,” the previous Red Devils midfielder told BT Sport.

“If you think that, [Ander] Herrera left, [Marouane] Fellaini left, in midfield, they’re extremely light.

“Then [Romelu] Lukaku leaves, [Alexis] Sanchez leaves, they do not have any help up top.

“[Marcus] Rashford then gets injured , [Paul] Pogba hasn’t played. [Scott] McTominay, one among their best players this season, hasn’t played.

“The achievement wasn’t there to back Ole up so injuries to key players.

“To be fifth with this squad, i believe without delay is nearly as good as it can possibly get.

“There are solely four points separating fifth and fourteenth. i don’t assume it’s going to more up, it’s more seemingly to go down and that is the big worry.”

United did show signs of life in their most up-to-date outing, a crushing 6-0 win within the fourth round of the fa Cup , however they were invariably expected to brush aside League One side Tranmere with the minimum of fuss.

Their next four outings will give a much better indication on the direction during which their 2019-20 campaign is going to head.

Solskjaer’s side will be looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit within the second leg of a carabao Cup semi-final tie with arch-rivals Manchester city on Wednesday, before then taking up fellow top-four hopefuls Wolves and Chelsea within the Premier League and Club Brugge within the last thirty two of the Europa League .
