British Racing Driver Billy Monger has won the 2018 Helen Rollason Award at the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Show.

The 19-year-old had both his legs amputated following a crash during a Formula 4 race at Donington Park in April 2017.

MySportDab report he returned to racing in March 2018 - less than a year after the accident - at the British Formula 3 Championship.

"First of all I've got to say a massive thank you for this award.

"I came here last year and had the privilege of seeing Bradley Lowery's parents collect this award and it was such an emotional and special moment of the night.

"A massive thank you to my doctors, surgeons and everyone at QMC, quite simply, without these guys, I may not be here today.

"It's a real honour to be able to share the stage with them because the work they did for me, well...they saved my life."

"Billy truly embodies what this awardis all about - overcoming adversity and triumphing during times of immense struggle," said Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport.

"I am looking forward to watching this remarkable young man collect his award on the night and watching his undoubtedly bright future unfold."
