Best known as the wife of former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff, Rachael first met the Ashes hero in 2002, several years before he became one of the defining faces of English cricket.

Their relationship has endured through the highs of Flintoff’s international success, retirement from professional sport, a successful television career and the life-changing crash during the filming of Top Gear in 2022 that dramatically altered their family’s public life.

While Andrew Flintoff’s achievements on the cricket field have been extensively documented, Rachael has consistently chosen a more private path.

Before their marriage, she worked as a model and promotional professional, later moving into business and event management while focusing on family life after the couple welcomed four children.

Interest in Rachael increased significantly after Flintoff’s serious accident in December 2022. As the former England captain withdrew almost entirely from public life during his recovery, attention turned toward the family members who supported him away from media scrutiny.

From their first meeting at a cricket ground to raising four children together and navigating one of the most challenging periods of their lives, their partnership has become one of British sport’s longest-lasting marriages.

Rachael Wools Flintoff Biography

Rachael Wools Flintoff

She was born in England in 1981, although she has never publicly confirmed her full birth date. Rachael Wools Flintoff has consistently kept details of her childhood and family background private, choosing not to discuss her parents, siblings or early education in interviews.

Long before becoming associated with Andrew Flintoff, she had already established herself in event promotions, working across corporate and sporting functions throughout the United Kingdom.

Those early jobs introduced her to the sporting world, eventually leading to the meeting that would change the course of her life.

Throughout Andrew Flintoff’s cricket career, Rachael rarely gave interviews, avoided reality television appearances and maintained only occasional public visibility despite becoming married to one of Britain’s biggest sporting stars.

Despite remaining out of the spotlight, Rachael occasionally accompanied Andrew to high-profile cricket events, award ceremonies and charity functions.

As Flintoff transitioned from cricket into broadcasting, presenting and entertainment, Rachael continued to avoid becoming a public celebrity in her own right. She instead focused on raising their children while managing family life away from cameras.

Her approach became even more evident following Flintoff’s serious accident during the filming of Top Gear in December 2022.

During the months that followed, the family made almost no public statements.

The family’s handling of that period reinforced a reputation they had quietly built over many years: keeping personal matters private despite enormous public interest.

Career

Rachael Wools Flintoff built her own career long before becoming known as Andrew Flintoff’s wife. Her background spans modelling, promotions, events management and business, with much of her professional life intentionally kept away from public attention.

She first entered the fashion industry as a teenage model, working with agencies and appearing in promotional campaigns across the United Kingdom.

Modelling opened the door to the events industry, where she developed an interest in marketing, brand activation and corporate promotions.

One of her biggest achievements came at just 19 years old when she founded Strawberry Promotions, an events and promotions company that specialised in organising corporate events, hospitality experiences and promotional campaigns.

The business quickly established itself within the industry, particularly across sporting and commercial events in England.

It was through Strawberry Promotions that her life changed. In 2002, while promoting an event at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, she met England cricketer Andrew Flintoff.

Their relationship began shortly afterwards, but she continued running her business independently during the early years of their relationship.

Official company records also show that Rachael Suzanne Wools served as a director of Strawberry Promotions UK Ltd between 2002 and 2005, reflecting her direct involvement in building and managing the company before stepping away following her marriage and growing family.

After marrying Andrew Flintoff in 2005, her priorities gradually shifted toward raising their children and supporting her husband’s international cricket career.

Andrew’s schedule often involved lengthy overseas tours with England, leaving Rachael to manage family life at home while continuing selected business interests.

Andrew has repeatedly acknowledged the importance of her support throughout his playing career. Her role became even more significant after Andrew retired from international cricket in 2009.

Although she rarely gives interviews or maintains a public social media presence, Rachael has occasionally appeared alongside Andrew at charity events and sporting occasions.

She has also been connected with charitable work through the Andrew Flintoff Foundation and other family initiatives supporting young people and community projects.

Andrew Flintoff’s Wife

Andrew Flintoff Wife

Rachael Wools Flintoff has been married to former England cricket captain and television presenter Andrew Flintoff since 2005.

Their relationship has remained one of the most enduring in English sport, despite the extraordinary public attention that has followed Andrew throughout his playing career and his later work in broadcasting.

The couple first met in 2002 at Edgbaston during a promotional event. At the time, Andrew was establishing himself as one of England’s most exciting all-round cricketers, while Rachael was working in event promotion.

Their meeting came before Andrew reached the peak of his international fame through England’s historic 2005 Ashes victory.

Their relationship developed away from the spotlight before they became engaged. They married on 5 March 2005 in London, just months before Andrew became one of the defining figures of England’s Ashes triumph over Australia.

That timing meant Rachael experienced the dramatic shift from supporting a successful international cricketer to becoming the partner of one of Britain’s biggest sporting personalities almost overnight.

Throughout Andrew’s career, Rachael has largely chosen to remain outside the public spotlight. Andrew has repeatedly spoken about the importance of family life throughout his career.

During his playing days, England’s international schedule regularly kept him away from home for extended periods through overseas tours and domestic commitments.

Rachael managed much of the family’s day-to-day life during those periods while continuing her own business interests. Following Andrew’s retirement from professional cricket in 2010, the family’s profile changed again as he moved into broadcasting.

He became a familiar face on Sky Sports before later presenting BBC’s Top Gear, A League of Their Own, documentaries and other television projects.

Rachael remained largely absent from interviews despite Andrew’s growing television career. When Andrew made his return through BBC documentaries and later resumed work in cricket broadcasting, Rachael again avoided publicity, maintaining the same approach that had defined their relationship for two decades.

Despite Andrew’s status as one of England’s most recognisable sporting figures, the couple have consistently separated public life from family life, rarely discussing their relationship beyond occasional interviews.

Children

Rachael Children

Rachael and Andrew are parents to four children and have consistently chosen to keep them away from the public spotlight despite Andrew’s high-profile career in cricket and television.

The couple have spoken openly about the importance of family life, but they have also made a deliberate effort to give their children as normal an upbringing as possible.

Andrew has frequently said that becoming a father changed his priorities, particularly during the latter stages of his cricket career when balancing international tours with family commitments became increasingly difficult.

Holly Flintoff

Holly is the eldest of the Flintoff children. Born in 2004, she arrived less than a year before Andrew became one of England’s biggest sporting heroes during the memorable 2005 Ashes series.

Because Holly spent much of her childhood while her father was playing international cricket, she experienced both the privileges and challenges that came with having one of England’s most recognisable athletes as a parent.

Andrew has occasionally spoken about missing important family moments because of overseas tours, describing those sacrifices as one of the hardest aspects of being an international sportsman.

Corey Flintoff

Corey is the couple’s second child. He has attracted more public attention than his siblings because of his growing cricket career.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Corey has represented Lancashire’s age group teams and has emerged as one of England’s promising young batting prospects.

His progress has naturally generated comparisons with Andrew, although both father and son have repeatedly avoided placing unnecessary expectations on his development.

Andrew has instead encouraged Corey to enjoy cricket while allowing him to develop his own identity as a player.

Rocky Flintoff

Rocky is the third child in the family. Like Corey, he has also shown an interest in cricket and has been involved in Lancashire’s youth system.

Andrew has occasionally spoken about spending time coaching and practising with his sons. Still, he has stressed that their enjoyment of the game remains more important than any comparisons with his own career.

Both Corey and Rocky have benefited from growing up around cricket while also receiving guidance from one of England’s greatest all-round players.

Preston Flintoff

Preston is the youngest of the four children. His birth came years after Andrew had retired from professional cricket, allowing him to spend considerably more time at home than he could during the early years of Holly’s childhood.

Andrew has joked in interviews that becoming an older father gave him a different perspective on family life and parenting compared with the years when he was travelling constantly with England.

Private Family

Despite Andrew Flintoff’s fame, the Flintoffs have consistently resisted turning family life into public entertainment. The children rarely appear in interviews, television programmes or commercial projects, and Rachael has also maintained a low public profile throughout their upbringing.

That approach became even more evident after Andrew’s serious Top Gear accident in December 2022. Throughout his recovery, the family avoided media attention almost entirely, allowing Andrew to recover privately while protecting the children’s lives from intense public scrutiny.

When Andrew eventually returned to television and cricket broadcasting, he acknowledged that his family had played a central role in helping him rebuild both physically and emotionally. The Flintoffs remain one of British sport’s most private families.

Public appearances involving all six family members are uncommon, and both Andrew and Rachael continue to draw a clear distinction between professional life and life at home.

Their decision has meant that, despite years of media attention surrounding Andrew’s cricket achievements and television career, their children have largely been able to grow up outside the constant spotlight that often follows sporting families.
