Barcelona confirmed the signing of World Cup winner Rodri who completes his move from Manchester City for a reported £60 million deal until 2030.
The Spanish midfielder was expected to Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, but he opted out of the move and instead joy opposite rival after being encouraged by the Spain teammates.
The transfer had it’s moment with Manchester City initially making it clear that the midfielder isn’t going anywhere following his outstanding performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Everything about the move dragged on for a while with Real Madrid who were first the interested club who pushed to sign the midfielder.
The transfer fee was dragged on for a while before the Spanish side were willing to match whatever Manchester City wanted.
Unfortunately, Rodri change his mind about the move to Madrid. He decided Barcelona was his option and he won’t accept any other deal which might come.
Deco and some other people from Barca did a good job at making the player change his mind after coming close to a move to Real Madrid.
The whole situation moved quickly as an agreement was reached between both clubs for the player to travel for his medical.
Everything has been finalized with Barcelona making an official announcement and unveiling of the midfielder who joins from Manchester City.
Rodri was pleased after signing his contract, he had so much to say expressing his joy in making such a massive move for his career.
“I had other options, but for me Barcelona was my first choice” Rodri said.
“I made that clear to everyone involved. I’m absolutely fit and ready to play! The surgery was nothing serious.
“Hopefully I can train tomorrow, put myself under Hansi’s orders as soon as possible – whenever he thinks I’m ready to.
“Sergio Busquets has always been a great role model. It’s a privilege that they compare me to him.
“We’re gonna do everything to win in Europe and continue winning in La Liga. We’re really happy.
“All my career’s decisions were led by sporting factor and this one too. Hansi Flick’s style attracts me a lot.
“I think that I can improve even further with him”.
He will wear the number 16 shirt with Barcelona which is something he made known to them before making the move.
Rodri is still recovering, and it could take a while before he is able to make a return to playing for the Spanish club this season.
