Rodri Charged by FA Over Referee Comments After Manchester City Draw

Rodri is facing a potential disciplinary ban after the The Football Association charged the Manchester City midfielder over comments questioning refereeing decisions following the club’s recent draw with Tottenham Hotspur, MySportDaB Reports.

City surrendered a two-goal lead in the 2-2 stalemate earlier this month, with frustration centred on Tottenham’s first goal.

The incident involved forward Dominic Solanke challenging defender Marc Guehi before scoring, a decision match officials deemed fair, much to the dismay of the City camp.

Speaking after the game, Rodri echoed long-standing concerns raised by manager Pep Guardiola regarding officiating standards. In an interview, the Spain international suggested refereeing decisions were not impartial, remarks that have now prompted action from the governing body.

Confirming the charge, the FA stated that Rodri allegedly acted improperly during a post-match media interview by implying bias or questioning the integrity of match officials — a breach of FA Rule 3.1.

The governing body has previously handed suspensions to players for similar statements.

Rodri has been given until February 18 to submit his response. Should the charge be upheld, the midfielder could face a suspension at a crucial stage of the domestic campaign, potentially impacting City’s squad rotation and midfield balance.

The development adds another layer of scrutiny to ongoing debates about officiating in the Premier League, with Guardiola himself having frequently voiced frustration about decisions affecting his side during his tenure in England.

City have yet to issue further comment as the disciplinary process continues.
