Barcelona have confirmed the situation of Pedri’s injury after the latter limped off the club’s Champions League league-phase Matchday 7 clash against Slavia Prague in Prague on Wednesday night, MySportDab reports.
Pedri exited the match with discomfort in the 61st when the scoreline was 2–2, and the club have confirmed he has picked up a right hamstring injury and is expected to be sidelined for four weeks.
“Tests conducted this morning have confirmed that first team player Pedro González “Pedri” has a right hamstring injury, which he picked up during the game against Slavia Prague yesterday. The recovery time is expected to be one month,” the club statement reads.
Pedri has been key to Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad this season. He has started 24 games in Barcelona’s 29 victories this season across competitions.
His blow has ramped up the number of names in Barcelona’s injury list to four with Ferran Torres, Gavi, and Andreas Christensen all sidelined.
Notably, Pedri’s impending four-week absence means he will miss scores of key matches for the club in the interval.
First on the list is this weekend’s La Liga clash against Real Oviedo at Camp Nou, then a trip to Denmark of face FC Copenhagen in Champions League league-phase final round on Wednesday.
He will also miss domestic fixtures against Elche, Girona, Mallorca, Levante, including the Copa Del Rey quarterfinal clash against Albacete.
Manchester United target Marc Casado has emerged as a priority option to replace the midfielder until his return. Casado has struggled for minutes and is expected to seize this opportunity to prove himself once again.
