Anthony Joshua’s driver has been formally charged following the car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two members of the boxer’s team and left the former world heavyweight champion injured, MySportDab Report.

Nigerian police confirmed that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared before the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court on Friday in connection with the incident, which occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

Prosecutors filed four charges against Kayode, including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid licence.

Joshua was travelling as a passenger in a Lexus SUV when it collided with a stationary truck on the busy highway. His personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Joshua, 36, was taken to hospital with injuries but was discharged on Wednesday after receiving treatment.

The court granted Kayode bail in the sum of ₦5 million (£2,578), pending the fulfilment of bail conditions. The case has been adjourned until 20 January.

Officials in Ogun and Lagos states said Joshua was “heavy-hearted” over the loss of Ayodele and Ghami, both described as close friends of the boxer. After his discharge, Joshua visited the funeral home where the bodies of the two men are being prepared for repatriation.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the boxing world. Promoter Eddie Hearn described the pair as loyal and full of energy, while Jake Paul, whom Joshua defeated on 19 December, said life was “much more important than boxing” as he offered his prayers to those affected.

Joshua, who has family roots in Sagamu, was reportedly travelling to visit relatives for New Year celebrations at the time of the crash.
