Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first active footballer to reach billionaire status, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaire Index, which listed his net worth for the first time, MySportDab Reports.

The 40-year-old Portuguese superstar, already the highest-paid player in world football, saw his fortune skyrocket following a record-breaking contract extension with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr earlier this year.

The deal, reportedly worth over $400 million, along with his tax-free income in Saudi Arabia and long-term endorsement deals with Nike and Armani, were cited as the main contributors to his wealth surge.

Ronaldo, who holds the record as the highest-scoring men’s international footballer with 141 goals in 223 appearances for Portugal, insists he has no plans to retire anytime soon—despite his family’s calls for him to hang up his boots.

“People, especially my family, say: ‘It’s time to stop, you’ve done everything.’ But I think I’m still producing good things for my club and country,” Ronaldo told Canal 11. “I know I don’t have many more years, but I want to enjoy every moment.”

A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo received the Prestige Award at the Portugal Football Globes on Tuesday, celebrating his longevity and influence in the sport.

“It’s not an end-of-career award,” he said. “It’s recognition for years of hard work, dedication, and ambition. Competing with younger players still motivates me—my passion for football remains strong.”

Ronaldo’s billion-dollar legacy cements his status not just as one of the greatest athletes in history, but also as a global business icon whose impact extends far beyond the pitch.
