Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed his decision on which of the two top goalkeepers will start for the club in their Champions League semi-final first leg against Inter Milan, MySportDab reports.
Barcelona will trade tackles with Inter Milan for a place in the final of the competition on Wednesday. Ahead of the match, there has been speculations on who is likely to start on goal between Wojciech Szczesny and Andre Ter Stegen.
Notably, Ter Stegen had been the first-choice goalie for the Catalan giants this season under Hansi Flick before he picked up an injury that sidelined him for most of the season.
In his place, Barcelona improvised with Wojciech Szczesny, who they signed out of retirement after his spell with Juventus.
Since replacing Ter Stegen, Szczesny has been brilliant for Blaugrana, putting up stellar shifts as Barcelona continue their push for a treble this season.
However, Ter Stegen was expected to return to his starting role and replace the Polish goalkeeper begining from the Inter Milan match.
Now, affirming his stance on who is likely to start in the match tomorrow, Flick revealed Wojciech Szczesny will retain his position and will start the remaining Champions League matches.
He also hinted Ter Stegen is not totally out of the picture this season and could be used in the remaining La Liga matches as he tries to rotate the squad and prevent fatigue.
“Szczesny will play in Champions League, it’s decided”.
“Ter Stegen? We will see about La Liga rotations,” Fabrizio Romano quotes.
Barcelona will hope to secure victory against a struggling Inter Milan heading into this match with Szczesny expected to start on goal, as affirmed.
