Current Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is said to have ignored Portugal national team job before making his return to Spain earlier this summer.
The legendary coach is one of those longed linked with taking over Portugal national team job before and after a decision was made for Roberto Martinez to move on.
However, it seems the juicy package from Real Madrid was too good for Mourinho to pushed aside to get one of his long dream of national team job.
The former Chelsea boss was in charge at Benfica when the call from Spain came in. He recently joined the club where he has been able to stabilize the team with an unbeaten run for the season.
However, the call came in and Mourinho who was also said to be waiting for Portugal national team job had to answer for the second time.
According to The Touchline, they confirmed saying: “José Mourinho turned down Portugal for Real Madrid!
“The Portuguese FA approached Mourinho ahead of the World Cup, but he chose to answer Florentino Pérez’s call instead.
“Out of loyalty to the Real Madrid president, Mourinho decided to return to the club to help a friend in a difficult situation.
During the time of Jose appointment, the Spanish had employed Xabi Alonso following Carlo Ancelotti departure from the club.
Things did not work out with the current Chelsea boss who who resigned half way into the season due to reasons with players management.
Current Fulham boss, Raul Arbeloa took over as interim until end of the season which the club decided to go after Jose as their new manager.
With the Real Madrid and Portugal jobs on the table, Jose Mourinho decided on making a return to Spain over securing the job to handle his national team ahead of the World Cup.
