Top Most Expensive La Liga 2026 Transfers

The Spanish La Liga Santander had a busy summer 2026 transfer window which saw both Real Madrid and Barcelona making some massive buys as they also do away with some unwanted players.

Contents
  • Yan Diomande – RB Leipzig to Real Madrid (€135 Million)
  • Rodri – Manchester City to Barcelona (€88.5 Million)
  • Anthony Gordon – Newcastle United to Barcelona (€80 Million)
  • Morten Hjulmand – Sporting CP to Atletico Madrid (€45 Million)

Spain’s top clubs invested heavily as they looked to strengthen their squads ahead of the 2026/27 season. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid were the biggest spenders, bringing in world-class players to improve their chances of winning domestic and European trophies.

La Liga clubs collectively spent more than €700 million during the window, showing a strong return to major spending. Here are the biggest transfers completed by La Liga clubs during the summer 2026 transfer window.

Yan Diomande – RB Leipzig to Real Madrid (€135 Million)

The biggest transfer of the La Liga summer window was Real Madrid’s signing of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. The Spanish giants agreed a club-record deal worth €135 million for the highly rated Ivory Coast midfielder.

The move also made the Ivory Coast international the most expensive African footballer in history. Real Madrid saw Diomande as a long-term leader in midfield and moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of several European rivals.

Despite being only 19 years old, he had already impressed at club and international level, especially during the FIFA World Cup where he played a key role for his national team.

The transfer shows Madrid’s determination to rebuild a squad capable of dominating both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League under Jose Mourinho. With Diomande joining an already talented team, expectations are extremely high for the young star.

Rodri – Manchester City to Barcelona (€88.5 Million)

Barcelona pulled off one of the biggest deals of the summer by bringing Spanish midfielder Rodri back to La Liga from Manchester City. The reported fee was around £65.4 million, which is approximately €88.5 million.

Rodri arrived after an outstanding spell in England where he won multiple Premier League titles, the Champions League, and several domestic trophies. He also established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in world football.

Barcelona viewed Rodri as the perfect player to strengthen the middle of the park and provide leadership for a squad that already includes several young talents.

His experience, passing ability, and tactical intelligence make him one of the most important signings of the entire window. However, there was a twist with the transfer after Real Madrid had made contact and agreed on all transfer details.

Things ended up not going the way of Madrid as the midfielder changed his mind and decided to head elsewhere. The move also showed Barcelona’s improving financial position as they were able to invest heavily in proven world-class talent.

Anthony Gordon – Newcastle United to Barcelona (€80 Million)

Another major signing completed by Barcelona was the arrival of England international Anthony Gordon. The winger joined the Catalan giants in a deal worth around €80 million, making him one of the most expensive transfers in La Liga this summer.

Gordon developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players before making the move to Spain. His pace, creativity, and direct style of play convinced Barcelona that he could become a key player under Hansi Flick.

The English star has already shown signs of adapting quickly to Spanish football. The La Liga Champions believe his versatility across the front line will help the club compete on multiple fronts throughout the season.

His arrival also signals the club’s intention to build a younger and more dynamic attack for the future. They also made other signings which includes Gabriel Jesus who joins from Arsenal to add more firepower to challenge Real Madrid.

Morten Hjulmand – Sporting CP to Atletico Madrid (€45 Million)

Atletico Madrid continued their squad rebuild by signing Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP. The deal is reported to be worth up to €45 million, including bonuses.

Hjulmand captained Sporting during a successful period in Portugal and earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most reliable midfielders. Atletico saw him as the ideal player to add strength, leadership, and defensive stability to Diego Simeone’s squad.

The Danish international arrives with experience, energy, and strong tactical awareness. His style of play fits perfectly with the club’s traditional approach, making him one of the smartest acquisitions of the summer.

Alongside other additions such as Jonathan David, Kang-in Lee, Alex Grimaldo, and Cristian Romero, Hjulmand is expected to play a major role in Atletico’s title challenge this season against giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The 2026 summer transfer window proved that La Liga remains one of the most attractive football leagues in the world. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid all made major investments as they prepared for another fiercely competitive season.

Yan Diomande’s record-breaking move to Real Madrid stands as the biggest transfer of the window, while Barcelona’s captures of Rodri and Anthony Gordon rank among the most important signings in European football.

Atletico Madrid also strengthened significantly with the arrival of Morten Hjulmand and several other key players.

With these transfers now completed, fans can expect an exciting 2026/27 La Liga season filled with new stars, fresh rivalries, and plenty of title drama.

The spending power shown by Spain’s biggest clubs has once again demonstrated that La Liga remains a major force in the global transfer market.

Although Rodri ranks second individually, Barcelona’s overall transfer strategy deserves special mention. The club spent approximately €184 million during the summer window, making it one of the biggest spenders in Europe.

Their arrivals included Rodri, Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Gabriel Jesus, and several promising young players. Barcelona had initially hoped to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, but Atletico refused to negotiate and the Argentine ultimately remained in Madrid.

Even without Alvarez, Barcelona managed to complete one of the strongest transfer windows in the club’s recent history. The combination of Rodri and Gordon alone gives the team a completely different look heading into the new campaign.

All teams ensured they got their target before the 2026 summer transfer window came to a close. Teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid all have to focus on building forward for the season with the players they were able to sign.
