Enzo Maresca and his Manchester City team continued their perfect start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the match as City made it three wins from three league games. Despite controlling large parts of the match, the home side had to work hard for the three points as Coventry produced a strong second-half display.

The biggest talking point before kick-off was the surprise debut of Enzo Fernandez. The midfielder was promoted into the starting lineup after Nico O’Reilly suffered an injury during the warm-up.

Fernandez immediately showed why the Premier League powerhouse invested heavily in him, delivering a composed and creative performance in midfield.

City started the match on the front foot and created several chances in the opening stages. Rayan Cherki looked lively in attack, while Haaland was a constant threat inside the penalty area.

Coventry, however, showed courage and nearly shocked the home crowd when Taiwo Awoniyi capitalized on a defensive mistake, but the striker failed to hit the target with a clear opportunity.

The breakthrough arrived in the 26th minute. Enzo Fernandez played a smart pass into the path of Ghanaian international, Antoine Semenyo on the right wing.

Semenyo delivered a dangerous cross into the box and Haaland rose highest to power a header past goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The goal was another milestone for the Norwegian striker as it marked his 300th club career goal.

After taking the lead, City continued to push forward in search of a second goal. Cherki came close after striking the post, while Haaland forced Rushworth into another excellent save.

The home side enjoyed long periods of possession and looked comfortable for much of the first half. Coventry defended bravely and managed to keep the scoreline at just one goal heading into the break.

The second half was a different story as the visitors made some tactical changes. Coventry grew in confidence and began to test City’s defense in the remaining half.

Jack Rudoni almost equalized with a powerful header, but Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a brilliant save to keep Manchester City ahead. The visitors continued to attack and showed why they deserve their place back in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard’s side kept pushing forward as the match entered its final stages. Loum Tchaouna and Ellis Sims both had good opportunities, while Matt Grimes also went close.

Donnarumma was called into action several times and delivered a series of important saves that ultimately preserved City’s lead. Enzo Maresca introduced more players late in the game.

Phil Foden also came off the bench as City looked to regain control after Coventry’s late pressure. Although City created a few more chances, they were unable to add a second goal.

The final whistle brought relief for Manchester City, who secured another important victory and remained at the top of the Premier League table with nine points from three matches.

Coventry left the Etihad without any points, but their performance offered plenty of positives. They defended well, created chances, and pushed one of the league’s strongest teams all the way.

It wasn’t an easy match for either of both teams despite the result which was favourable to Enzo Maresca’s side 1-0 after 90 minutes of action played at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland once again proved to be the difference-maker, while Fernandez enjoyed an impressive debut. Coventry can take encouragement from their display and will hope to turn strong performances into points in the coming weeks.

The match may have finished 1-0, but it delivered plenty of action and showed the quality both teams can bring to the Premier League this season between both teams all through the 90 minutes.
