Chelsea officially welcomes new signing Geovany Quenda who joins from Sporting Lisbon who already signed last season but spent the campaign on loan with the Portuguese club.

The World Champions confirmed the arrival of one of Europe’s most electrifying young talents. The 19-year-old Portuguese sensation has completed his high-profile move, putting pen to paper on a staggering long-term contract that will keep him in West London until 2034.

Geovany Quenda’s journey over the past two seasons has been nothing short of meteoric. Rising through the ranks at Sporting, the versatile forward quickly established himself as a cornerstone of their tactical setup.

His ability to operate across the attacking line, whether as a traditional winger, a deep-lying forward, or an industrious wing-back, has made him a nightmare for defenders across the Primeira Liga.

During his final campaign with the Lisbon giants, Quenda played a pivotal role in securing a historic domestic Double. His influence was undeniable; he not only provided critical attacking impetus but also displayed a defensive maturity rarely seen in players of his age.

His accolades are already piling up, most notably being crowned the Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season in 2025.

Beyond domestic success, Quenda has etched his name into the record books as Sporting’s youngest-ever goalscorer and currently holds the honor of being the youngest Portuguese player to find the back of the net in the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

For a player of Quenda’s caliber, the interest was widespread across Europe’s elite. However, the youngster admitted that Chelsea’s vision for his development and the club’s unwavering faith in young talent were the deciding factors.

“It feels great to be here,” Quenda told the club’s official media channel shortly after the announcement. “I am excited to work with my team mates and the manager Xabi Alonso. I’m very hard working young person and I like to help my team.

His arrival is a massive coup for new manager Xabi Alonso. The player was quick to praise the Spanish manager whom he will be working with once the preseason commence.

Tactically, he offers Alonso a wealth of options. His experience at the international level with Portugal, particularly his standout performance at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship where he was named in the Team of the Tournament, proves he is ready for the rigors of high-stakes football.

At 19, Quenda is already being spoken about in the same breath as some of the game’s greatest prospects. Former coaches have lauded his defensive diligence, a trait that makes him a perfect fit for the modern, high-pressing game favored in the Premier League.

Fans can expect a player who is just as comfortable tracking back to recover the ball as he is driving at defenders and creating chances in the final third.

By signing a deal through 2034, Chelsea has made a bold statement of intent. The club is clearly building for a future centered around players with the right mentality, as Quenda put it.

His arrival is not just about immediate impact; it is about building a legacy. As he begins his settling-in period at the Cobham training base, the excitement among the Blues faithful is all over the air.
