Chelsea officially appoints former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as their new manager ahead of next season.
The London club made the announcement official today after the Spaniard signed his contract which makes him the club new manager.
Xabi Alonso won’t immediately take over as new manager. The former Real Madrid manager is expected to resume his role on July 1st, 2026.

He is taking a much different role which will give him more power over transfer and other things going on with the club.
Alonso will assume a manager role which others were not given. The contract for the new manager is a 4-years deal which run until 2030.
Once again, the Chelsea owners are looking at a long-term project which has always been their target despite the whole changes that has been happening.
Xabi Alonso will be coming in with a lot of experience which he achieved mostly during his time in Germany.
However, his spell with Real Madrid lasted just months due to so many issues going on in the dressing room.
The decision to walk out on Real Madrid plays no impact in what Alonso has achieved over the years in Germany.
After signing his contract, the Spanish coach had so much to say as he looks forward to working with the Chelsea team.
Alonso said: ‘Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club.
‘From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition.
‘We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.
‘There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club and it will be my great honour to lead it.
‘Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture and winning trophies.

Alonso appointment comes after long talk with him and other candidates who were all seen as perfect for the club.
The Chelsea owners decided on going with the former Real Madrid coach who they as the perfect fit to take them to another level which they need so badly after a horrible season.
Xabi Alonso will take full control of decisions which mostly concerns who comes in and goes out of the team to ensure he performs to the fullest of his capabilities.
