Raphinha Blasts Referee as Atletico Madrid Knock Barcelona Out of Champions League

FC Barcelona crashed out of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals despite a spirited performance, with Raphinha accusing officials of “robbing” his side after defeat to Atletico Madrid, MySportDab Reports.

Barcelona secured a 2-1 victory in the second leg at the Metropolitano, but it was not enough to overturn the aggregate score, as Diego Simeone’s men progressed 3-2 overall.

Goals from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres had briefly restored hope for the visitors, leveling the tie early on. However, Ademola Lookman delivered the decisive blow, sending Atletico into the semi-finals.

The match was overshadowed by controversy, particularly following the late red card shown to Eric Garcia, which left Barcelona unable to mount a final push for extra time. Referee Clement Turpin came under intense scrutiny for several key decisions, including a denied penalty appeal involving Dani Olmo.

Raphinha, who missed the clash through injury, did not hold back in his post-match reaction. Speaking to reporters, the Brazilian winger expressed anger over what he described as repeated officiating errors.

He claimed Atletico committed numerous fouls without punishment and questioned why similar incidents had occurred in consecutive matches.

While frustration dominated the players’ response, head coach Hansi Flick struck a more measured tone. The German praised his team’s effort, particularly in the first half, but admitted they failed to capitalize on their chances.

Despite registering superior attacking numbers, Barcelona’s inability to convert opportunities proved costly.

The defeat also highlighted a worrying defensive trend, as Barcelona extended their run without a clean sheet in the competition. However, Flick emphasized the long-term potential of his young squad, noting that valuable lessons would be taken from the experience.

With their European journey over and domestic cup hopes ended, Barcelona now shift focus to La Liga. Holding a commanding lead at the top of the table, their priority will be securing the title and ensuring this setback does not derail an otherwise promising campaign.
