The English FA have issued a statement clarifying their decision on Harry Maguire’s reaction to his red card against Bournemouth in the Premier League before the March international break, MySportDab reports.
Maguire hugged the headlines after he brought down Bournemouth’s evanilson in the box, leading to a penalty. He was also shown a red card after he confronted the referee for the red card.
Now, the FA have issued a statement, confirming the English defender has been charged for misconduct during the match.
“Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20,” the statement reads.
“It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response,” the statement adds.
MySportDab understands Maguire stands suspended from Man United’s next Premier League match against Leeds United due to the red card.
Now, the Red Devils could lose him on a longer spell due to the FA’s intervention, with the football governing body likely to extend the suspension.
Manchester United ended up dropping points in that match, drawing 2-2 after the penalty was converted.
Meanwhile, Maguire has been an integral part of the United team under interim manager Michael Carrick and is likely to sign a new contract with the Old Trafford club this season.
