Boxing legends Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will reignite one of the sport’s most lucrative rivalries when they meet in a highly anticipated rematch this September at Sphere in Las Vegas, MySportDab Reports.
Streaming giant Netflix confirmed on Monday that the bout will be broadcast live globally on September 19.
The contest revisits their 2015 “Fight of the Century,” which generated a record 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and more than $600 million in revenue, making it the highest-grossing fight in boxing history.
Mayweather claimed a unanimous decision victory that night, reportedly earning around $300 million.
Now both in their late forties, the two icons are returning to settle unfinished business. Mayweather, 48, retired in 2017 with an unblemished 50-0 record but has since taken part in exhibition bouts.
Pacquiao, 47, stepped away from boxing in 2021 to pursue a political career in the Philippines, including an unsuccessful presidential bid, before returning to the ring last year.
“Floyd and I gave the world the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough,” Pacquiao said in a joint statement. Mayweather was equally confident, insisting the outcome would mirror their first encounter.
The rematch will mark the first professional boxing event staged at the technologically advanced Sphere, which opened in 2023 and is famed for its immersive 160,000-square-foot wraparound screen.
Netflix’s involvement underscores its growing investment in live sports programming, following major boxing events featuring Terence Crawford and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, as well as crossover bouts involving Jake Paul.
Pacquiao, an eight-division world champion with a 62-8-3 record, said he is dedicating the fight to Filipinos worldwide. For Mayweather, nicknamed “Money,” the rematch offers another chance to cement his legacy — and perhaps once again rewrite the financial record books.
