Eriksen Criticises Amorim’s ‘Worst Team’ Remark Amid Manchester United Turmoil

Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has criticised Ruben Amorim’s decision to publicly describe his squad as the “worst team in the club’s history,” branding the comments unhelpful and damaging during a turbulent period at Old Trafford, MySportDSab Reports.

Eriksen, who spent three seasons with United before leaving at the end of his contract last summer, won both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup under Erik ten Hag.

However, following a poor start to the 2024–25 campaign, Ten Hag was dismissed and replaced mid-season by Amorim, who left Sporting CP to take on the challenge in Manchester.

Rather than easing pressure, Amorim’s blunt media approach drew widespread attention, particularly in January when he suggested the players under his charge were the worst to ever represent the club.

The remark reportedly caused discontent within the dressing room and sparked criticism from Eriksen, now playing for Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

Speaking to The Times, the Danish international said such matters should remain private, stressing that public criticism only adds pressure to players already struggling for confidence.

While acknowledging Amorim’s honesty, Eriksen insisted the comments did little to improve morale and instead created unnecessary headlines.

Eriksen also highlighted the broader challenges facing United players, noting the relentless comparisons to past legends such as Roy Keane and Robin van Persie.

He explained that wearing the United badge brings immense historical weight, particularly for younger players attempting to establish themselves in a club defined by decades of success.

United’s prolonged decline since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013 continues to dominate discussion in English football. Eriksen believes constant managerial changes, structural instability and unrealistic expectations make success increasingly difficult.

While Amorim remains committed to imposing his philosophy, Eriksen’s comments underline the fragile environment at Old Trafford, where rebuilding confidence may prove just as important as tactical evolution.
