Liverpool met their Waterloo in the hands of a lowly-rated PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League round five fixture on Wednesday night, MySportDab reports.
In one of the biggest upsets of the round as the Reds fell to a shocking 4-1 defeat at home to the Dutch side. Ivan Perisic opened the scoring for the away team from the spot in the sixth minute, but Dominik Szoboszlai brought the home side back into the game with the equalizer 10 minutes later.
However, Szoboszlai’s goal would turn out to be the Reds’ consolation in a shambolic night before their home fans at Anfield.
The first half ended square, but PSV Eindhoven were unstoppable in the second 45. Guus Til raced the visitors into the lead again in the 56th minute before Driouech’s late brace sank the hosts, condemning them to a heavy 4-1 defeat.
As expected, a barrage of reactions has greeted this horror result for the Reds in the elite club competition in Europe as no one expected the Premier League champions’ capitulation in such a manner.
For club legend Steven Gerrard, it was undoubtedly a disappointing result for the team with a lot of poor displays by the players. However, he insisted that one player who missed his script more in the game was Milos Kerkez.
According to him, Kerkez was “criminally out of position” and this allowed PSV Eindhoven to easily have a firm grasp of proceedings.
“Kerkez to me is out of position for the majority of the game.
“It’s criminal to be on that side of the attacker. You have to be on the inside. He gives himself no chance,” he said.
Liverpool have now lost their last three games across all competitions by three goals, sparking concerns that the team is fast falling off the pecking order this season.
They will look to bounce back when they travel to London for domestic league action against West Ham United on Sunday.
