Alex Iwobi Makes Premier League History with 300th Appearance

Alex Iwobi has etched his name into Premier League history by becoming the first Nigerian player to make 300 appearances in the English top flight, achieving the landmark during Fulham’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday, MySportDab Reports.

The 29-year-old reached the milestone after already surpassing compatriot Shola Ameobi as Nigeria’s most-capped player in Premier League history earlier this season.

His achievement cements his legacy as one of the most consistent and enduring African players to grace English football.

Iwobi now joins an exclusive list of Africans to reach 300 appearances, alongside Kolo Touré (353), Mohamed Salah (309), Wilfried Zaha (305), and Jordan Ayew (305).

Despite Fulham’s loss, the Super Eagles star impressed with two shots, two crosses, and a 74.4% passing accuracy across 90 minutes.

Reflecting on his achievement, Iwobi told Fulham’s official website:

“It’s amazing. It’s a big achievement to lead that, with the likes of Shola Ameobi and even my uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha, who’s played in the Premier League. It’s an honour, but I’m not done yet — I’ll keep going and hopefully keep the record moving.”

Born in Lagos, Iwobi rose through Arsenal’s academy and made his Premier League debut in 2015 under Arsène Wenger.

He went on to win an FA Cup and two Community Shields before joining Everton in 2019.

Four years later, he signed for Fulham, where he has continued to make history.

In April 2024, Iwobi also became the Nigerian with the most minutes played in Premier League history, surpassing John Obi Mikel — further underlining his remarkable consistency and longevity in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
