Sinner Outlasts Auger-Aliassime to Set Up US Open Final Showdown with Alcaraz

Defending champion Jannik Sinner overcame a stern challenge from Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday, winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to book his place in the US Open final, where he will face rival Carlos Alcaraz in what promises to be another blockbuster clash, MySportDab Reports.

The Italian, who has been almost flawless this season, had to grind his way past the 25th-seeded Canadian in a match full of momentum shifts.

After racing through the opening set, Sinner was briefly unsettled as Auger-Aliassime responded with aggressive serving and bold shot-making to level the contest.

The world No.1 also took a medical timeout during the second set for stomach discomfort but quickly recovered, regaining his rhythm to close out the third set with clutch serving before sealing victory in the fourth.

The hard-fought win makes Sinner only the fourth man in the Open Era, after Novak Djokovic, Rod Laver, and Roger Federer, to reach all four Grand Slam finals in a single season. Speaking after the match, the 23-year-old hailed Auger-Aliassime’s performance:

“Felix played an amazing match, serving and hitting better than when we met in Cincinnati. Hopefully his injury is nothing serious because he’s such a great player and person,” Sinner said.

Attention now turns to Sunday’s final against Alcaraz, their third straight Grand Slam title match of 2024.

The Spaniard edged Sinner in a five-set thriller in the French Open final before the Italian struck back at Wimbledon, and now the rivalry comes full circle in New York, the site of their famous quarter-final duel three years ago.

“I feel our rivalry really started here,” Sinner reflected. “We know each other well, and it’s always special to play him. This will be another incredible battle.”
